Does my child need strong writing skills to attend?
No. This workshop is designed to support writers of all levels, including students who may feel unsure or reluctant about writing.
What will students write about?
Participants will respond to creative prompts inspired by mentor texts and read-alouds to explore personal thoughts, ideas, and experiences through journaling.
Will students have to share their writing?
Students are encouraged, but never required, to share their work. We aim to create a supportive and welcoming environment for expression.
How does journaling help young writers?
Journaling helps students build writing fluency, improve confidence, and develop the ability to express ideas clearly in both creative and academic settings.
Is reading included in the workshop?
Yes. Students will engage with mentor texts and read-alouds to help them read as writers and inspire their own journaling practice.
Will students be able to continue journaling after the workshop ends?
Yes. Participants will be set up for an ongoing journaling practice and may have optional opportunities to check in on their progress later in the summer (additional dates TBD).
Who is this workshop for?
This program is designed for students entering grades 3-5 who are interested in building confidence and creativity through writing.
